First trade edition illustrated by Arthur Rackham, signed and inscribed Rackham on front free endpaper: "To Alfred Max with best wishes from Edyth + Arthur Rackham / Christmas 1928." Next to the inscription Rackham has drawn in ink a picture of an owl similar to his decoration on the cloth cover. Cloth of rear joint with small splits; internally fine. Signed trade editions of Rackham's works are rare, particularly with an original ink drawing. |
