George Barbier's first illustrated book:
Designs on the Dances of Vaslav Nijinsky
with 12 magnificent pochoir plates

Barbier began his career as a costume and set designer for the Ballets Russes, where he became inspired by the poetic movements of the celebrated Russian dancer Vaslav Nijinsky. Designs on the Dances of Vaslav Nijinsky is Barbier's first illustrated book and one of the first lavishly produced editions de luxe that became so popular in France and London during the 1910's and 1920's.

BARBIER, George. Designs on the Dances of Vaslav Nijinsky... foreword by Francis de Miomandre, translated from the French by C.W. Beaumont. London: C.W. Beaumont, 1913. Large quarto, publisher's pictorial wrappers. $7500.

Limited edition, number 107 of only 400 copies, with 12 magnificent pochoir plates by Georges Barbier. With additional illustrations in the text. Minor repair to rear joint, some wear to wrapper extremities, backstrip with some loss. Scarce, particularly complete in the original wrappers.
